I grew up in Camas as a middle kid and survived. I got my “Mr.” degree while working on my bachelor’s degree – I met the right woman and have been with Andra ever since. After completing undergrad I wanted to make the world a better place and began a career in nonprofit administration.
While spending a few years working for hospice I decided the nonprofit world needed more expertise, so I went to Syracuse for my MPA. I graduated and tried working for United Way, but discovered that I couldn’t afford a mortgage on my salary and decided to switch to government administration. There I stayed for 13 years, becoming expert in many aspects of finance and administration while spending far too many hours at city hall instead of at home with my wife and kids.
In 2013 I left a city administrator position to form Pulse Consulting with my sister, Kimberly, who convinced me that I could continue to do good things in the private sector while gaining some control over my work hours. Last year someone suggested I should apply for an empty seat on the Port. I did so and I love it! I feel my experiences have been perfect training for this position and I believe I’m doing some real good for my community!
My life is now pretty much perfect: I spend 1/2 of my time working on the port, 1/2 of my time consulting, and 1/2 of my time being a father and husband. The math has some issues, but all in all it’s working out great!
